ABOUT ME

I'

I'm Ryan Phillips—Canadian, British, and unapologetically creative.

My career's taken me from designer, photographer to art director and now creative director, but one thing hasn't changed: I'm still obsessed with making things. Good things. Things that matter. And yes, I still get my hands dirty when a project demands it—because sometimes you need to stop talking and just make shit happen.

Here's the thing: everything in life is designed. How we communicate, how we connect, how we experience the world around us. It's not just an ethos—it's the lens through which I see everything, whether I'm crafting a brand identity, directing a campaign, writing a headline that stops people in their tracks, or obsessing over those tiny details that separate good from unforgettable.

Currently, I'm the Creative Director for the WestJet Group, where I’ve created and lead 'The Studio’— our in-house agency  behind WestJet airline, WestJet Vacations, Sunwing, SellOffVacations, and LUXE. After years in traditional agencies, I took everything I learned about great creative and built something different. We don't pitch for work, we pour over it. We move fast, dream big, and keep it scrappy.

I lead teams across design, copy, video, and project management—getting involved in everything from visual concepts to writing headlines and ad copy for commercials and radio. At The Studio, we don't do cookie-cutter, and we don't settle for safe. We do work that makes people feel something—preferably FOMO about their next vacation.

Every day, I get to help Canadians trade snow for sand and turn their getaways into stories they'll be telling at parties for years. It's creative with altitude, and honestly? Not a bad gig.

Over the years, I've been fortunate to work with brands like Coca-Cola, Nike, McDonald's, Jaguar Land Rover, NBA, NHL, Premier League, Live Nation, Sony Music, ITV, Big Brother, Blue Diamond International, and cultural moments like the 2012 Olympics, Commonwealth Games, and UN World Indigenous Forum.

From billboards to hotel brands, cultural movements to live events, I've had the privilege of creating work that connects with people. I believe in bold ideas—whether that's a visual that stops you mid-scroll or words that make you give a damn.

Collaboration fuels me. Details are my religion. They might not shout the loudest, but they're what separate good from "holy shit, that's brilliant."

I'm all about pushing boundaries, having fun with the process, and never losing sight of what really matters: creating work that makes people think "damn, I wish I'd thought of that." Because honestly? If we're not making stuff that gets people excited, then what's the point?
